other course delivery systems such as Moodler, an instructor's or publisher website.

Windows (PC) Pentium or Higher

  1. Windows 7 or newer

  3. Firefox, Internet Explorer,
    Chrome
(For best performance it is recommended that users install the most recent versions of the browsers.)

  4. Audio and video capability

  5. Personal e-mail capability

  6. Document creation software compatible with MS WORD

  7. Android Devices 2.3 and newer

Linux - Chrome OS

      MAC Computer

  1. Mac equivalent (PPC) Mac OS 10.6, Snow Leopard or higher 132 megs RAM

  2. Reliable connection to Internet (broadband recommended)

  3. Firefox, Internet Explorer,
    Chrome or Safari Browsers
(For best performance it is recommended that users install the most recent versions of the browsers.)

  4. Audio and video capability

  5. Personal e-mail capability

  6. Document creation software compatible with MS WORD

  7. IOS 7 and newer

1. With upgrades to courseware and course delivery software, it is recommended that, for optimal experience, Windows 7 and higher and Mac OS 10.6 and higher are used. Using an operating system less than Windows 7 or Mac OS 10.6 could be problematic for most e-learning courses. MAC users using less than 10.6 will be unable to view Panopto or other multimedia technology.  Android Devices 2.3 and newer and IOS 7 and newer.

North has two on-campus computer labs that can be used by e-learning students. These computers have software and Internet connections that will work with all of our eLearning classes and eLearning students with NET ID can use these labs. They are located in the library and in Instruction Building IB3303.

2. Most eLearning courses (online, hybrid or on-campus courses with an online component) utilize technologies which require a broadband Internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or WLAN). With technologies such as video or audio streaming, Panopto, Podcasts, Camtasia films, narrated PowerPoints and learning management systems like Canvas or Moodle, a broadband Internet connection will make the online experience more accessible and less problematic.
3. Recommendations for hardware capabilities:

  •  A computer five years old or newer
  •  1GB of RAM
  • 2GHz processor

4. Some online courses may require the ability to upload, read and send MS Word document files (or files that can be read by MS Word). If you have any questions about this, please contact your instructor by e-mail before registering to insure that you have the ability to turn in your assignments in a format that will be useable. You can download Microsoft Word.

If you do not have Microsoft Office software, there is a free download for two office suites. Libre Office and Open Office. These are compatible with Microsoft Office and will allow you to create and read documents that have been created with this software.
